Everyone Deserves A Good Night’s Sleep

Do you remember the last time you didn’t sleep well? It likely affected most of your day, if not the entire day. Perhaps you were sluggish at first and eventually woke up, but what about those times when it affected you more seriously? Now picture not getting good rest for multiple nights in a row.

Sadly, millions of Americans are not getting enough sleep each night. In fact, only one-third of adults get the minimum amount of sleep.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average American adult sleeps for less than 7 hours a night even though experts recommend an at least 7 or more hours to maintain optimal physical and mental health.

Lack of sleep affects us in many ways: not only our physical health, but also our emotional and mental health and our daily productivity.

Researchers have found clear links between sleep quality and performance at work and school. According to the National Library of Medicine, poor sleep has an estimated economic impact of more than $411 billion. When kids don’t sleep well, their school performance suffers. Also, when a person doesn’t get enough sleep, they are more prone to getting sick.

It’s especially important for infants and children to get enough sleep. For proper development, babies up to 1 year old need 12 to 16 hours of sleep each day, including naps. School aged children who lose 39 minutes of sleep have a harder time coping at school and typically feel worse than those getting enough sleep according to the American Medical Association.

Clearly, adequate sleep (and quality sleep), is important!

Believe it or not, but some people have never had their own bed. There’s no dignity in sleeping on the floor or on an air mattress that might be deflated every morning.

Bridging’s vision is simple: “Everyone lives in a furnished home.”

This seems simple but imagine if you didn’t have a bed: how would that affect many other areas of your life? Tired new parents can relate… you’re not as effective as a parent when you’ve been up for long hours. It’s difficult to focus on work, school, and/or other areas of life when you’re exhausted.

Bridging wants every household to have a bed, and a bed is not complete without sheets, blankets, and a pillow. Thus, when inventory allows, Bridging offers everything necessary so clients can get the rest that the body requires.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to sleep. Some can sleep comfortably with a sheet; whereas others love to hibernate beneath multiple heavy blankets.

The dignity of choice that Bridging provides also ensures that clients can select the blanket, sheet and pillow styles and types that they want, so everyone can get the good night’s sleep that they deserve.

Bridging wants to make sure clients have the items needed for a good night’s sleep! We accept used mattresses, blankets, sheets, and pillows that are clean: stain and odor free.

You can also help by hosting a blanket drive! Currently, we have a need for need sized blankets (twin, full, queen, and king).
