Volunteer Julie M.: Fulfilling Each Person’s Vision of Home

Julie Moen is top-notch Bridging volunteer and a longtime educator. An exceptional listener, she hones in on each person’s unique needs. She is a positive and creative resource, and her greatest satisfaction is being present as someone feels empowered and reaches an important goal.

As a special education teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, she motivates and works with 7th and 8th graders, enjoying the energy and learning that each day brings.

And when school is out for summer, she shares her unique and valuable skillset as a volunteer at Bridging!

Julie found out about Bridging when she volunteered in a dresser-build event with her small group from Eagle Brook Church. Their team effort resulted in a large collection of new dressers made available to clients in Bridging’s warehouses.

Julie wanted to do more to help Bridging furnish homes with hope. She started as a shopping volunteer in Roseville. Each week during the summer months, she assists clients as they select furniture and essential household goods for their homes and transition to housing stability.

For the past nine summers, Julie has continued her tradition of serving as a volunteer alongside clients of Bridging:

“When I meet clients and hear their stories, it’s so special,” she says. “They come in with such an amazing spirit. They’re so excited to furnish their homes and make this new start. I listen to their vision. I want to help them fulfill their vision for their home. I want them to have fun. We go above-and-beyond to find what someone likes or needs. It’s special to be a small part of their story.”

The Bridging team is grateful for Julie, a volunteer who offers compassion, patience, and the ability to take things in stride — qualities that are immensely helpful in a person-centered nonprofit organization focused on dignity and excellent client service.

“Julie is very good at treating each person as an individual. She makes each person feel important, like they are the only one,” says Bridging Volunteer Manager Wendy Erickson. “She puts a positive spin on everything. Nothing ruffles her feathers. She quickly puts clients at ease and ensures they have a wonderful shopping trip.”

Julie is an incredible champion for Bridging, encouraging her colleagues, family, and all she meets to volunteer and support the organization’s important mission.

In addition to Bridging, Julie also volunteers with Feed My Starving Children.

The Bridging team is grateful for Julie and her amazing presence at Bridging. Thank you!
