Meet Ilon, Bridging Community Engagement Coordinator
Meet Ilon Preston, the newest member of the Strategic Partnership team at Bridging!
Q: How have your first few months been at Bridging?
A: In a word, “exciting!” It’s been such an interesting process coming to a furniture bank after being a Program Manager at a food pantry – so much is the same, and SO much is also very different. Getting to dig into the history and logistical processes of Bridging has impressed me. Not a lot of nonprofits can say their volunteers have been dedicated helpers for DECADES. That means that the work is meaningful, the connections are real, and the end-of-the-shift feeling is satisfied.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Bridging?
A: Seeing how the operations all fit together and support each other and then connecting with the people that actually make it all happen. It’s been so easy to learn from fellow staff and volunteers. And I get to take that knowledge and passion, and use it to introduce Bridging to brand new people through leading the volunteer groups! It’s very easy to talk about Bridging and the impact this organization has in people’s lives.
Q: Why does Bridging’s mission matter?
A: The 1-2-3 combo of helping those who need furniture and housewares via those who have excess to donate, and in the process, functional items stay out of the landfill is such an effective model for people and the environment.
And, if you think back to the last time you stayed somewhere other than your house, you probably missed your bed, and your couch, and your space. Our HOMES are so important to us and our families. It’s stability and comfort, and everyone deserves that.
Q: What’s a “fun fact” about you?
A: Here’s three:
- I’ve been an amateur whitewater rafting guide in North Carolina.
- I have a matching tattoo with 15 women from the Twin Cities Camogie team from their 2019 World and National Championship season. Simply because I practiced with them so much I became an unofficial member of the team.
- I’m part of a musical duo that’s played at two adult birthday parties so far, and looking to expand and start playing for strangers.
